Beloved actor Michael J. Fox, known for his iconic role in Back to the Future, is mourning the loss of his cherished companion, Gus, a twelve-year-old Great Dane-Labrador mix. Gus was by Fox’s side through life’s many challenges, including his battle with Parkinson’s disease. In a heartfelt social media post, Fox shared a photo of Gus and wrote, “Gus — great dog and loyal friend, we’ll miss you,” referencing pages from his memoir, No Time Like the Future, where he fondly described Gus as his “wonder dog” and a source of immense joy and comfort.
Gus played a vital role in Fox’s recovery journey, especially after a spinal surgery in 2018 left him in a wheelchair. Fox recalled Gus’s gentle encouragement, which helped him regain his ability to walk. Beyond physical recovery, Gus provided emotional support, helping alleviate feelings of isolation brought on by chronic illness. Reflecting on their bond, Fox wrote, “I didn’t rescue Gus. You can argue that he rescued me.” While the loss of such a loyal companion is deeply painful, the love and memories Gus left behind will forever remain a part of Fox’s life.
