In 1993, Jo Ann Ussery, after losing her home, turned to an unconventional solution: transforming a retired Boeing 727 into a home. For under $30,000, she renovated the aircraft, creating a 1,500-square-foot living space with three bedrooms, a kitchen, and even a luxurious master bathroom in the cockpit. The home featured modern amenities and clever use of the airplane’s compartments for storage. Ussery lived in the plane with her children until an accident ended its use as a residence. Her innovative project remains an inspiring example of creative, alternative living.
