Sahar Tabar: A Controversial Transformation

Sahar Tabar, a young Iranian woman, gained fame for her dramatic transformation, reportedly undergoing over 50 surgeries at 19 to resemble Angelina Jolie. While Tabar claimed her look was a form of self-expression rather than a direct imitation, her exaggerated features—gaunt cheekbones, plumped lips, and a reshaped nose—sparked widespread debate. Speculation also arose about whether her appearance was the result of surgery or digital edits.

Her Instagram account, with nearly four million followers, became a hub for her unique style but was eventually removed, which her mother supported. In an interview, Tabar described her look as art, not a reflection of her true self.

In 2019, Tabar faced severe consequences, including arrest on charges of blasphemy, inciting violence, and violating Iran’s strict dress code. She was sentenced to ten years in Qarchak Prison, notorious for harsh conditions, but was released after 14 months.

Activist Masih Alinejad highlighted her case, calling on Angelina Jolie to comment, turning Tabar’s story into a symbol of self-expression and its societal limits.
