Woman Turns Boeing Plane Into Fully Functional Home

In 1993, Jo Ann Ussery’s home in Benoit, Mississippi, was destroyed, leaving her and her two children in need of housing. Inspired by her brother-in-law, she purchased a decommissioned Boeing 727 for $2,000 and transformed it into a unique home.

With less than $30,000, Ussery converted the 138-foot-long plane into a 1,500-square-foot living space featuring bedrooms, a kitchen, a living room, and a luxurious bathroom in the cockpit overlooking a lake. She and her family lived there from 1995 to 1999.

Though the plane was later destroyed during transport, Ussery’s creativity and resilience turned an aircraft into a one-of-a-kind home, blending aviation history with modern living.
